Beautiful blue Lapis Lazuli stone wrapped in Sterling Silver wire and accented with pyrite.

Details

This blue Lapis Lazuli, from Afghanistan, is approx 35mm in size, it has lovely natural pyrite inclusions, so it looks like washed denim with golden threads running through it. I have used .925 Sterling Silver wire to make a frame for the gemstone using an ancient technique known as couching. I have accented the pendant with 13 smaller gold plated pyrite stones and added a pyrite star as a drop from the bottom of the pendant.

The back of the pendant has a sterling silver S shape, so you can wear the pendant either way around.

The total length of the pendant  (including the bail and pyrite star drop) is approx 7cm. I have put it on a 925 Sterling Silver chain which is approx 44cm (18 inch). You can, of course, remove the chain and add a longer length chain from your stash or a long cord to wear the pendant at a different length.

Lapis Lazuli is a birthstone for September, and is also a stone for 7th and 9th wedding anniversaries.

Lapis Lazuli has been used in jewellery for many centuries, it was used by the ancient Egyptians for jewellery, painting and even eye shadow. In the rennaissance period, it was used to make ultramarine blue paint.

Lapis Lazuli, in crystal healing, is considered to be a stone of wisdom and truth. It is believed to help relieve insomnia and ease depression.

Pyrite is often called ‘Fools Gold’. In crystal healing, Pyrite is believed to be a powerful protective stone, it is said to increase happiness and enthusiasm.
